1951 Silver Streak Clipper ("Paris")
Interior
As with our past projects, our design intent with the Paris Clipper was to give her a modern interior and all the luxuries of a new trailer: versatile sleeping capacities, a wet bath, and practical amenities optimized for glamping off-grid. We began our floor plan design with a load distribution analysis to understand the most optimal placement of weight in the trailer. The floor plan we came up with allows four different sleeping configurations and a rigid bathroom enclosure for privacy. With that plan in mind, we set about fixing the interior from the bare shell condition. Here’s an outline of our process from the beginning:
- Finalized new floor plan
- Reinforced corroded areas of exterior skin with Evercoat Metal-2-Metal Metal Reinforced Filler
- Sealed belly seams and rivets from inside with seam sealer, and insulated the belly with 5 inches of fiberglass insulation (leaving room for a radiant barrier and prescribed gap)
- Topped fiberglass insulation with radiant barrier (Reflectix)
- Installed 3/4-inch plywood subfloor after coating all edges with epoxy sealant
- Insulated interior: glued 1-inch foam board to exterior skins with construction adhesive; attached spacers to create maximum available air gap (1/2″); topped with inner layer of Reflectix
- Painted interior skins with Sherwin Williams Extreme Bond Primer and Benjamin Moore Advance Waterborne Interior Alkyd Paint
- Rehabbed and repainted original galley cabinet and all upper cabinets
- Built new upper cabinet doors to replace warped and delaminated original doors
- Built and installed bathroom and galley walls, bathroom door, custom dinette, beds and end cabinets using maple plywood. Cut and installed galley countertop, dinette table and end table tops from solid maple hardwood in 3/4″ thickness to reduce weight.
Built out custom wet bath with hand shower, which can also be diverted to outdoor shower module.
- Finished all walls and furniture with Helmsman Indoor/Outdoor Spar Urethane (selected for superior resistance to water, light and temperature fluctuations, as well as its low levels of toxic substances/fumes)
- Installed Isotherm D130 marine refrigerator by Indel Webasto, Greystone CFRV-17 range oven, and Dickinson Marine Newport P1200 marine fireplace
- Installed ProCore Plus 5mm LVT flooring (selected for weight and durability)
