1947 Airstream Liner
AVAILABLE
The vintage Airstream Liner was the first model Airstream produced when it reopened after World War II. Wally Byam declared the Liner to be the “easiest towing trailer coach” on the market. An advertisement from the era even shows the French cyclist Alfred Letourneur towing one with his bicycle! Given the relationship between Byam, Curtis Wright Industries, and the Silver Streak Trailer Company, this 22-foot Liner is nearly identical to the two Silver Streak Clippers that we have restored, with the primary difference being the “cyclops eye” rather than “alien eye” end windows.
When we received this trailer, it was titled as a ’48. But the Airstream Club historian, Mr. Peplinski, informed us that it is actually a 1947. Its serial number (4771-1016) indicates that it was manufactured in July 1947, and that it was the 16th Liner ever made. In fact, according to this thread on airforums.com, as of January 2023 it is quite possibly the 4th oldest Liner still in existence!
The down-to-the-studs renovation of this beautiful vintage Airstream Liner is underway, and she is currently standing on a re-engineered chassis. Since we haven’t had much time to update the website, you can follow her progress in this Google photo album. Click individual photos for captions.
